Overview
ChromaLens is a browser extension for color picking, palette extraction, contrast checking, and WCAG accessibility auditing. This policy explains what data the extension handles. The short version: nothing leaves your device.
Data the extension collects
ChromaLens does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. There is no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and no network calls of any kind. The extension works entirely on your device.
Local storage
The extension stores your preferences and work products locally in your browser: favorite colors, recent colors, saved palettes (up to 50), and the interface theme. These are stored in your browser’s local storage under the keys chromaLens_favorites, chromaLens_recent, and chromaLens_theme, and never leave your device. Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the extension removes them.
Pages you visit
When you actively trigger a feature (picking a color, extracting a palette, or running an accessibility audit), the extension reads the current page’s content in your browser’s memory to perform that task. This happens only on your command, only for the current tab, and the results are never stored or transmitted. The extension does not read, store, or send page content in the background.
Permissions
ChromaLens requests the minimum permissions needed to work: activeTab and scripting (to inspect the page you choose), storage (to save your favorites and palettes locally), contextMenus (right-click image extraction), and tabs (to operate on the current tab when you invoke a feature). No permission grants access to your browsing history, bookmarks, or accounts.
Open source
The extension is open source under the MIT License. Anyone can review the source code at github.com/webxlr8/Chromalens and verify that the build is produced from source by CI.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page. Since the extension’s data handling is limited to on-device storage, material changes would only come from new functionality.
